Are Pro Drummer's rich?

The Soul SirkUS interview on KNAC.com got into this...interview still going btw. These guys play in mutliple situations with various artists--some more profitable than others--to allow income to come from more than one source. I guess it's the ol', "Don't store all your goods in one place...spread them out." Same true for financial investing...the balanced portfolio idea.

It was mentioned in the interview that one guy quit a high profile gig because he wasn't making squat and after the gig he had to pay his rent bill so he moved on.

I think you're mistaken about the $20K per show thing. Maybe in a major rock band, but unlikely for a hired gun. Regardless of the gross at a concert, the money is fronted by the label (loaned to the band) who has to pay it all back out of profits. The drummers are usually salaried, just like the sound guys.

Lots of talented name drummers are teaching, doing clinics, hustling, etc., for the money. Most of the guys you mention do van tours with their own fusion projects, not bus tours, because they don't make much (or lose money) and need to save money. The guys mentioned have done well because of all the Pop recording work they've done.

Deen Castronovo seems to be really well off, he talks about his Vipers and Lambos...all that ghostdrumming must have paid pretty handsomely.

First, Weck and Vince, are not in the same league. Remember, at 5g's a track, Vinnie makes about $50,000 for an entire major label record date. He does about 20-30 of these at least, a year. Add tours, and clinics, endorsements. YES, he gets paid to play his gear. The man's a multi millionaire. I remember at a lesson with Gary Chaffee back in 1989, Gary told me Vinnie was a millionaire back then. And remember, if you're 40 and you invest a simple $100,000 in a good stock or any investement, in 10 years that can triple in ver least. Do your math.
Gadd makes 15,000 a show with Clapton. If younger players like Hass, Carlock and Sanchez are in 6 figures, then players like Vinnie, Aronoff, and Chamberlain are way up there.
Hass' website is worth about $25,000. How do you think he can afford to play for that? The company that did his site is the top media company in NYC.
These people make money. They work very hard and are always on the road and in the studio. It pays.

Oops..I was a little off... I just double checked and the one I'm talking about was making $25,000 a week. That still aint bad [img]eek.gif[/img]
